Skills-Based Hiring Without the Buzzword Trap
Dropping degree requirements only works when assessment, job design, and manager capability move with them.
Skills-based hiring promises wider talent pools and fairer selection. Too often it becomes a slogan on a careers page while interviews still privilege pedigree and polish.

Assessment must be observable. Work samples, structured interviews, and calibrated scoring beat unstructured conversations. Train hiring managers; do not assume good intentions equal good process.
Internal mobility is the twin of external skills hiring. If employees cannot move based on demonstrated capability, the external message rings hollow.
Measure what changes: source mix, quality of hire at six and twelve months, and demographic shifts in offer rates. Without metrics, skills-based hiring is branding, not reform.
